Murphy-Bumgardner papers [manuscript], 1777-1942.

Revolutionary War documents, 1777-81, include muster rolls and payrolls for several companies in the 1st and 9th Virginia regiments; also the pay record of Dr. Terrence Dorren; an agreement for exchange of prisoners between General Cornwallis and General Green. Papers, 1796-1942, of the Bumgardner family of Augusta County, Va., and their various family businesses including J. Bumgardner and Co., J. Bumgardner and Sons, J. Bumgardner Distilling Co., McClure and Bumgardner, and Bumgardner, McQuaide and Co. Other items include a land grant, 1801, signed by James Monroe; Virginia Militia payroll receipts for War of 1812; letter, 1886, from U.S. Treasury's Secret service division detailing prevalent counterfeit money schemes; a will, 1919, of Sarah M. Bumgardner; description and photographs of "Bethel Green," the Bumgardner family home; portrait postcard of Virginia Clemm Poe; etching of Edgar Allan Poe.
